Business Rules Mining to Rewrite

In many Rewrite scenarios, there is an “old” application that was in use prior to the decision to Rewrite. So, even though the old application is not being saved going forward, the old application source code may be the place to “mine” or “harvest” existing business rules and specifications. If this can be done successfully, and there are a few automated tools and technologies that are available for this purpose, it may prove valuable to the Rewrite effort to run through the old application source code a few times, using “mining” and “harvesting” technologies, to see what value these tools may bring in helping to define, or partially define, the new application that will come from the Rewrite effort that is planned for the development of the next generation application system.
